At times, life can feel like you’re stuck in a rut. It feels like whatever you do, your situation is just not getting any better and you’re just unhappy! I want to help you get out of your funk! Here is a list of simple changes to make to your mindset that can completely change your future! These are simple changes that I have made in my own life that have had a tremendous effect on how things have played out for me later on.
1. Spend Less Than You Earn!
Save your money! Who would have thought?? Saving money should really be a no brainer but it’s something that a lot of people neglect or don’t do because they don’t think that they can spare the funds. Even if you’re not able to set aside a lot, try to set aside something! You never know when something is going to happen! If you lost your job today, how long would you last? If your car broke down, can you pay to fix it?
Set aside just $20 out of every paycheck. Or $25! Or $10! Start collecting your change in a jar! Whatever you can spare! It adds up! A lack of effort NEVER produces results.
2. Don’t Undervalue The Power Of Reading!
Read some shit! There is no such thing as reading too much.. In our modern world, there is NOTHING that you can’t learn about by reading because there is a book on EVERYTHING. You wanna learn how to become a millionaire? There’s a book for that. You wanna learn how to start your own business? There’s a book for that too! You can do ANYTHING that you set your mind to and reading about it is a pretty damn good place to start. You never know, you may find that ONE thing that changes your life forever! Might I suggest:
3. Plan Ahead
Now there is no way in Hell to predict and prepare for every possible situation or scenario, but there are ways to help yourself from being hung out to dry if anything were to happen.
Prepare yourself financially. Set up some kind of savings or “rainy day fund” just encase of job loss, unexpected expenses, etc. ($1,000 minimum is recommended) – more on that later 😉
Prepare yourself for natural disasters. I’m not saying become a doomsday prepper (however you can’t be too prepared/just don’t stress yourself over things that haven’t even happened yet). But make sure that your home is in good order to defend against anything that could happen: Roof in good shape?/Is the roof going to blow off with a little bit of wind? Foundation in good shape?/Is your house going to crumble if there’s an earthquake of any kind? Car running well? Fire escape plans?/Do your kids know how to get out or where to go if there’s a fire?
Stock up a little on things that your family uses everyday. I always buy double of our most common items if I can: double laundry detergent/ double dog food/ double dish soap/ extra canned food-stuff like that. I tuck the extras into storage for later use when we are low on funds or if something were to happen. Stock up on the things that would be hard to go without if something were to happen and you didn’t have access to those things anymore.
Make sure that all of your insurances are in order and up to date. Insurance is there “just in case”! That’s literally what it’s for! Now I’m not saying buy every insurance policy under the sun (God knows a lot of them are bullshit) but make sure that the things that matter most to you are protected!
Car insurance; if you got in an accident could you pay to repair your car and the other car involved? No? Get your car insurance in order! **It’s the law anyway!!** Home owners insurance; if something happened to your home (fire, flood, tornado, hurricane, etc.), do you have the money to fix it? That’s what home insurance is for! Don’t own your home? Get renters! Renters insurance protects all of your belongings inside a rented space. How about life insurance? If something happened to you, could your family afford all of the bills you would leave behind? **I recommend talking to a professional about exactly what insurances you need and what your options are**
4. Dream Big!
We’re talking about the future here right? So DREAM IT UP BIG!!! I don’t know about you but I have some pretty big plans for my family’s future. You’re never too old to dream and you’re never too old to achieve those dreams! Don’t let age, finances, personal situations, or anything else stop you from reaching for the stars! Even if things look bleak, THERE’S ALWAYS A WAY! EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO INVENT ONE! There’s a way.
5. Set Goals
Goals! Goals! Goals! If you don’t know what you’re shooting at/for, what’s the point of shooting?? Dreams are only half of the battle, now you have to set goals in order to reach those dreams! “A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dreams come true!” – Greg S. Reid. A new house, travel the world, a new car, start a family; what ever goal you are trying to reach, big or small, set smaller goals that will help you reach the larger one! Put a plan into ACTION!!
6. Organize Your Life
It’s a little hard to get anything done if nothing is organized..
Take care of yo’ shit! Figure out exactly where you are, where you want to be, and what you need to do to get there.
Get your finances in order! Do you know exactly how much you make every month and exactly where it all goes? If not, it’s a pretty good idea to get that figured out… Set a budget for you and your family and then stick to it! Your money is what provides the life that you live, if you don’t take care of it then it’s not going to take care of you.
Get your home in order! No one likes coming home to a mess.. And even more than that, a messy home is not healthy! Mess and disorganization in your own home makes you feel overwhelmed, trapped, even depressed! Are you being overrun by your “things”? If so, it might be time for a change. Mind And Body
Get your mind in order! How often do we really think about our mental health? Never. Mental health talk is taboo talk now days but it’s super important!! You have GOT to take care of your mind, body, and soul! Without any one of them, you wouldn’t be who you are! Do some yoga, have a spa day, quit stressing over things you cannot change! If your priorities are not in order then I can guarantee that you’re stressed out over something for no reason.. Priorities are the things that mean the most to YOU. No, that does not include that ridiculous assignment that your boss just gave you at work.. That means your family! That means you! If you and your family are not at the top of your list of priorities, then you need to do some rethinking…
Prioritize things that you can control. If your too worried about rising gas prices or what Vladimir Putin is doing in Russia, then you’re setting yourself up for failure.. Yes it is good to pay attention to those things but stressing over things that you cannot control is just stupid..
Your life is within your control! Take control and live the life that you want! It’s up to you! 🙂
