Hello and welcome to WhatAWanderousWorld!
Ahh! I’m so excited about this list! Family movie nights are a very big deal with my family. Our kids absolutely love jumping and squishing up in bed with Nick and I to watch a movie. It’s a great way to unwind at the end of the day and a sure fire way to guarantee a little quality family time!
Here I have compiled a list of my family’s favorite movies to watch together!
Of course, Frozen. This is Chayanne’s (my 6 year old) top pick of course but a great family film non the less. Besides it being a totally kick ass Disney movie, Frozen shows kids the value of family togetherness and friendship. It also shows young girls that not every “Prince Charming” may be what he seems (in my opinion anyway). A good watch! I highly recommend! (5 Stars!)
2. Bedtime Stories
My family loves anything with Adam Sandler in it and Bedtime Stories is no exception! This one is Blake’s (my 9 year old) top pick… All of the time! Bedtime Stories is a comedy about Skeeter (Adam Sandler) who is left in charge of his niece Bobbi and nephew Patrick for a little while and whenever he tells them bedtime stories at night they miraculously come true the next day! This is considered one of Adam Sandler’s first “Family Films” but still very entertaining and worth the watch! Highly recommend! (5 Stars)
3. Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
Yup, if you have a kid between the ages of 7 and 12 I’m sure that you saw this one coming. Blake and Kendra never shut up about Captain Underpants! They have all of the books and continue watching the movie over and over and over! Captain Underpants is a purely goofy entertaining movie with a little dash of friendship lessons here and there. Super cute and worth the watch. Recommended watch. (5 Stars)
4. Peter Rabbit (2018)
This is one of my personal top picks because I absolutely LOVE this movie! The new 2018 version of the old Peter Rabbit story is perfectly blended with a new modern and more mischievous take on the rabbit that we all know and love. This movie is nothing short of the perfect family movie. Highly recommend. (5 Stars)
I don’t know what it is but my kids are absolutely obsessed with the Twilight series! (Mainly Kendra, my 7 year old). I figured that they were a little too young for that sappy, dramatic, lovey stuff, but I guess not! Anywhoo.. My kids love cuddling up and watching “The Vampire Movie” as they call it and rooting for ‘Team Jacob’ or ‘Team Edward’! It’s really kinda funny to watch. We only watch the first couple of movies though, the last two movies get quite suggestive.. If you plan on watching any of the Twilight series with your kids, I highly recommend watching them ahead of time to make sure there isn’t anything in there that you don’t want them to see. (PG-13) Parental Discretion Advised.
6. Star Wars (ALL OF THEM!!)
Anyone that knows me knows that I am a huge Star Wars nerd and my family is no exception! Star Wars is huge in my household in general so it’s definitely big on family movie night! For those of you who don’t know, Star Wars is an epic adventure about good versus evil and how they both live inside of all of us. The “dark side” is very tempting, for you can achieve things you would never have dreamed on the “light side” but at a cost; the evil of the dark side is too controlling and powerful, the dark power twists good people to do it’s horrible bidding. Star Wars is all about that battle of dark and light inside one’s self. MUST WATCH!!! (100000 Stars)
7. Jumanji (1995 and 2017)
I love both of the Jumanji movies! Jumanji is a game that takes place in another world (called Jumanji). Players and elements of the game are transported back and forth through physical manifestations of the game (board game and video game console). Both movies are packed to the brim with cliff hangers and adventure! You can’t go wrong with the 1995 version with Robin Williams, it’s freaking Robin Williams! Need I say more? The 2017 version could not have been cast better! Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black work in perfect, hilarious harmony! Highly recommend. (10 Stars)
Zootopia is one of the cutest movies to hit the screen in recent years (in my opinion). I will admit, when this movie was first released I watched it quite a bit (watching it with the kids was just my excuse..). This movie is a story about a young rabbit that wants to be a cop in the big city of Zootopia! When she gets there, things aren’t quite what she imagined and she ends up making friends with some unlikely characters who help her achieve more than she ever dreamed. Young Officer Hopps is a daring, strong, independent, and fearless role model for young girls! Highly recommend. (5 Stars)
9. Night At The Museum (1-3)
I absolutely adore the Night At The Museum movies! I was still a kid when these movies came out and i would watch them on repeat constantly! The Night At The Museum is a hilarious story about a museum where everything comes to life at night! Each exhibit has a huge personality all their own and you can’t help but fall in love with each one. Highly recommend. (5 Stars)
10. Mary Poppins
You just can’t beat the classics! Mary Poppins is a wonderful movie about a nanny who swoops in at just the right time to save two particularly mischievous children from themselves! Mary Poppins teaches wonderful lessons about the joys of life, happiness, and family all while taking the children on marvelous and magical adventures! Must watch! (5 Stars)
11. Wreck It Ralph
Wreck It Ralph is always a popular one on movie night for us, it’s one of Nick’s favorite movies! Ralph is a video game character who no longer wants to do what he is designed to do and therefore puts all of the characters in his game in jeopardy of being erased! He starts jumping from game to game trying to find somewhere that he can better fit in as a hero rather than a villain. Recommended watch! (5 Stars)
I love this movie!! The Incredibles are a family of super heroes that have to learn to use their powers together to defeat villains in a world that no longer wants super heroes. The Incredibles is all about family togetherness and the importance of that! Highly recommend. (10 Stars)
13. Hotel Transylvania (1-3)
Hotel Transylvania is a super cute movie about a bunch of monsters staying in a monsters only hotel! The owner of said hotel, Dracula, and his daughter, Mavis, run the place together but when a human comes to stay there…. Things get interesting. This movie is all about not judging a “book by it’s cover” and accepting people for who they are. Great movie! (5 Stars)
This movie is a super cute epic adventure all about breaking boundaries and learning about who you are inside. Moana is a brave and adventurous young girl who gets caught up in a mission to save all life on Earth by returning the heart of the beloved Goddess Te Fiti and meets some very interesting characters along the way! Super cute movie! Must watch! (10 Stars)
15. Despicable Me (1-3) And Minions
I love the Despicable Me movies!! Who doesn’t?? The Despicable Me movies are all about family. Gru, a once notorious super villain, is humbled when he meets three little girls who would change his life forever. Margo, Edith, and Agnes become the center of Gru’s world as he tries to balance family and villainy but quickly learns that villainy is just not worth losing his family over. Highly recommend! Must watch! (25 Stars)
16. Inside Out
Inside Out is a super cute movie that helps kids better understand their feelings and emotions. Feelings and emotions can be very confusing and stressful for kids, this movie gives a good depiction of what emotions are and how to better understand them! Good movie. (5 Stars)
17. Monsters Inc.
You can’t go wrong with Monsters Incorporated! This movie is all about the importance of friendship and doing things your way. Monsters Inc. teaches kids that just because something is done a certain way and maybe has always been done that way, it doesn’t mean that it is right. Highly recommend. (7 Stars)
18. Toy Story
Toy Story is the ultimate kids movie! This movie is all about toys, friendship, family, and helping others! If you haven’t watched this one with your kids yet you are seriously missing out! (25 Stars)
