Welcome to WhatAWanderousWorld!

It’s that time of year again!! Christmas time is here!!

Christmas time has always been a huge deal in my family. Everyone knew that when Christmas came around Papa’s house was the place to go because he went ALL OUT and I was always his little helper! Well now that I’m an adult, nothing has changed.. I now carry those traditions with my husband and kids and Christmas movies are no exception!

With that being said, here are some of our favorite Christmas movies to watch together!

1. A Christmas Story

Okay, A Christmas Story is kind of a no brainer when it comes to Christmas movies.. I mean hell, they run it on repeat on cable all day Christmas Eve AND all Christmas Day!

A Christmas Story is one of the ultimate family Christmas movies. Ralphie is a character that we can all relate to, especially around the holidays. From bullies and problems at school to desperately wanting a “Red Ryder BB Gun” for Christmas and the worry that he won’t get it, Ralphie takes us through a few days in his life in which he learns a lot of lessons! A great watch for the whole family! Highly recommend!

2. Elf

Elf is a hilarious Christmas comedy about Buddy, an “elf” that is actually a normal man who was accidentally sent to the North Pole as a toddler!

Buddy grew up as if he was a normal elf but he always felt like he didn’t quite fit in (I wonder why…). Once he became fully grown, Buddy decided to take a trip to New York City in search of his real father and things get very chaotic from there! 😉

A hilarious comedy that they whole family can enjoy! Highly recommend!

3. How The Grinch Stole Christmas

How The Grinch Stole Christmas is a timeless family Christmas classic. Several versions of this story have been produced but How The Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Jim Carry as the Grinch, is by far my favorite!

The Grinch, a green and Christmas-hating character, lives atop the highest mountain in Whoville and spends all of his time hating the cheery citizens of the village below. However, one year, one brave who decides to invite the Grinch into the village for a massive Christmas celebration and all hell breaks loose from there! A must watch with the family!

4. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Okay, I think just about everyone is fairly familiar with the Griswold family from their other movie National Lampoon’s Vacation but just encase you’re not; Clark Griswold, husband and father of two, is obsessed with making things perfect for his family, in this case that is Christmas. From the lights and decorations all of the way to dinner and presents, Clark is determined to make sure that everything is absolutely perfect! Needless to say, things don’t always go as planned…

The hilarious chaos that is the Griswold family is a must watch! Highly recommend!

5. Christmas With The Kranks

Luther and Nora Krank are finally empty nesters after their kids go off to college and this year they have decided to celebrate Christmas a little differently with a Caribbean cruise rather than traditional festivities. This idea does not bode well with the rest of their neighborhood..

The rest of the Christmas-obsessed neighborhood is determined to win the annual “best decorated street” contest and is not about to let the Kranks off  the hook easily! The hilarious drama that ensues is a must watch for Christmas time!

5. Disney’s A Christmas Carol

Simply put, this is Disney’s version of the traditional Christmas Carol story.

Ebenezer Scrooge, a grumpy old man who despises Christmas and anything Christmas related, must learn an important lesson this year on Christmas Eve. If he does not, the consequences will be dire..

A family friendly traditional Christmas story. A must watch!

Edit: Nick and I rewatched this one a couple of days ago and there were a couple of parts that were a little darker than I remembered.. I recommend a parental watch before bringing the kids in.

6. A Charlie Brown Christmas

A Charlie Brown Christmas is a timeless classic starring the Peanuts cast that we all know and love so much. In this story, Charlie Brown finds himself in a bit of a slump despite the fast approaching and normally cheery holiday season. In attempt to remedy his rather poor mood, Charlie attempts to direct a Christmas play with his fellow peers which leads him to discovering the true meaning of Christmas!

A must watch for all families! Highly recommend!

7. Home Alone

When mischievous young Kevin McCalister is accidentally left at home after the rest of his family took a Christmas vacation to France, Kevin believes that a wish he made (for his family to disappear) has come true! Now with his home being threatened by burglars, Kevin must figure out how to protect his home and wish his family back!

This one has always been a traditional holiday movie in my family so I highly recommend watching it! It’s worth it! 😉

8. Frosty The Snowman

Everyone knows the story of Frosty The Snowman! When a group of children place a magic top hat upon a freshly built snowman, the snowman begins to sing! And dance!

Frosty The Snowman turns a small town upside down with his jolly songs and dancing until spring begins to arise, then Frosty must figure out what to do before he melts! A classic family movie that everyone can enjoy! A must watch!

9. Miracle On 34th Street

This one holds a special place in my heart and that’s because it was my grandpa’s favorite Christmas movie. There have been a couple different versions of this movie made over the years but we always watched the 1947 version.

Miracle on 34th Street is all about a little girl who doesn’t believe in Santa and a department store Santa who is hell bent on proving that he is the real thing! His wild claims land him in a court room where he must prove that he is not crazy and that he is indeed the real Santa Claus!

A heart warming classic that should never go out of style!

10. The Santa Clause

This one is by far my favorite Christmas movie of all time!

When Scott Calvin has his son over for Christmas, things look pretty bleak between the severely burnt turkey and Charlie’s (Scott’s son) eagerness to go back to his mom’s house. But all of that changes when Santa falls off of the roof! The two are whisked away to the North Pole on what turns out to be the best thing that had ever happened to either of them. Highly, highly recommend! My favorite movie therefor you have to watch it!

11. Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas

Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas consists of three short films, each one a different Christmas story!

The first is a Goofy story! Goofy and his son Max have one interesting Christmas between desperately trying to get a letter to Santa all of the way to their beliefs being shaken by one grumpy neighbor.

The second is a Donald Duck tale! When Donald’s nephews wish for it to be Christmas everyday, they get stuck in a “ground hog day” sort of loop!

The third is of course a Mickey and Minnie Mouse tale! Mickey and Minnie discover a magical meaning to Christmas when they both give everything they’ve got to get eachother the perfect Christmas gift.

A very cute children’s Christmas movie! Great for the whole family!

12. The Polar Express

It’s December 2nd and my kids have already watched this movie at least 5 times.. So needless to say it’s a hit in our household!

The Polar Express is the one and only train to the North Pole and it only reveals itself to a select few good boys and girls. When a young boy, starting to doubt the existence of Santa Claus, finds himself staring at a massive train that appeared in front of his house in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve, he is sent on a journey of self-discovery!

We love this movie! Highly recommend!
